Study sheds light on the darker parts of our genetic heritages
Using gene editing to shut down DNA methylation in human cells, a specific set of transposons become activated. In turn, the transposons affected genes important for neural development. The findings shed light on how a loss of DNA methylation affects the genome in cancer and neuropsychiatric diseases.
